Second Sphere Technology Patent Issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office

A second patent for our Sphere technology has issued today by The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Our disruptive Sphere technology is designed specifically for endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms occurring at bifurcations – a condition for which before the development of Sphere there was no acceptable endovascular treatment. The device is spherical in shape and consists of a high density patterned surface constructed from Nitinol® wire which when placed, reduces aneurysm inflow while being secured in the healthy parent vessel by two open loops. The decrease in flow into the aneurysm leads to thrombus formation in the sac of the aneurysm and ultimately healing and remodeling of the aneurysm and its neck

This patent which issued on May 20, 2014 as US 8,728,141 B2 covers:

  • Single Wire is formed into a spheroid with a dense face to direct blood flow away from the aneurysm and promote thrombus in the sac of the aneurysm

The MINT Program now has 3 issued United States Patents, and 24 patents pending in the US and world-wide.

These newly issued patents strengthen and support MINT’s strategy of establishing a robust patent portfolio to protect our technologies as we continue to advance the development process.
